Writing Classes

How do I register my child?

Click on “Book a Class,” on the Home Page of the website, and if a suitable class is available, please enroll your child using PayPal. You will get a confirmation email if you have successfully registered. If there are no classes listed, it means there are no available spots.

What is the Fee Structure and the Fee Policy?

Grades 3-4 (First-time students) - $425 / 12 hours per term
Grades 4-5 - $ 515/12 hours per term
Grades 6-8 - $645/12 hours per term
Heading to Grade 9 and onwards - $645/8 hours
Private classes at any level - $560/6 hours or $680/8 hours
(One rescheduling allowed with 2 hours’ notice, no more)
Semi-Private lessons at any level (less than 3 students) - $425/6 hours or 325/4 hours
Editing of essays - $95 an hour.
Fees are due on the first day of class, and no online student will be invited if fees are not paid up.

What about sibling discounts?

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO DISCOUNT/ SIBLING DISCOUNT, because every student requires individual attention, and time taken to correct each assignment does not decrease with increased enrollment.

Do you refund fees/make-up/cancellation of unattended classes?

There are no refunds after the first class as a limited spot has been wasted. Refunds before classes begin will be considered if cancellation is done 48 hours before classes begin and are subject to a $50 processing fee. So please check and double-check whether the schedule works, your child is on board about working hard - at least 2 hours of homework, and what the classes truly entail. If your child misses 2-3 classes in a row, they will never catch up with the others. There are no make-ups if students miss a class, but they may request a class be recorded occasionally, not every time.

How much homework do the students get?

Students usually get three pieces of homework – one long piece (About an hour), one vocabulary piece (15 minutes), and some text-based writing (30 minutes). This is over and above the required reading tasks, which they are supposed to do anyway for school. Most of the books will be available at your public library, but occasionally, you may need to purchase them.
Students may skip homework once in a while, but never two weeks in a row. If a child has no time to complete homework, there will be no improvement and there is no point in wasting time or effort attending classes. Your child may be asked to leave and your fees forfeited.

What is your policy on plagiarism and AI/Chatbot-derived, AI-assisted, or responses aided by other Apps?

Students will be given one verbal or written warning and a repeat offender will be asked to leave our classes and their fees forfeited. Please note that this includes Grammarly and other such Apps.

NOTE:
1. If a pattern of incomplete/no homework/missing homework deadlines is seen, your child may be asked to leave and your fees forfeited.

2. Student assignments may be used in lesson plans, in advertisements, or as models, but without any associated names, and enrollment in any class implies an automatic consent.

3. Occasionally, a class is recorded for a student who has a scheduling conflict (if given adequate notice), and your writer will be a part of the recording. However, it will only be used for learning purposes by absentee students.

Can you enroll your child for trial classes?

No, trial classes are not offered as it rarely ever helps, especially in writing. Writing is a process and while some pointers may be understood in 2-3 weeks, no adult or child can improve their writing significantly in a matter of a few classes.

Is my child guaranteed to improve?

There is no formal assessment provided. IF they are good readers, most children have been known to find their school tasks easier after completing a couple of our modules, as they would after attending any other academic enrichment class. Brainy Alley classes guide children in their thinking process, and does not “teach to the test” at any time.
